Shoppers at Tesco stores throughout England have been getting behind The Poppy Factory recently, thanks to an excellent joint effort by our employability and fundraising teams.
Our Director of Operations, Sarah Casemore, has been leading a campaign to make sure The Poppy Factory is one of three charity choices for customers who are given a token to vote with each time they shop.
Tesco works with community charity Groundwork to distribute proceeds from the sale of reusable carrier bags through its ‘Bags of Help’ initiative. After two months of voting, local grants are shared between the three projects, and the one with the greatest number of votes receives the most in funding.
The Poppy Factory has successfully applied to be included in dozens of schemes across the South East and South West since November 2018, our employability team have been giving out information in stores, and we’ve been using local newspapers, radio and social media to appeal for shoppers’ support from Devon to London.
Funds are now starting to roll in, with top grants of £4,000 awarded to The Poppy Factory in some of the first areas, including Salisbury and Lincoln. These vital contributions will enable us to support even more wounded, injured and sick veterans back into meaningful and sustained employment in communities throughout the UK.
Voting continues in different areas throughout March and April, so please keep a look out for The Poppy Factory at a Tesco near you. Every little token helps!
