Caroline was a teacher when she joined the TA, both of which she thoroughly enjoyed.  Little did she realise that her regiment would be mobilised to Afghanistan for 8 months, where she was a Signaller in the Commando Engineers. Unfortunately, she managed to smash her ankle whilst parachute jump training.

"When I returned from Afghanistan, I felt unable to deal with a classroom of kids intent on winding me up," said Caroline. “Your self esteem is low when recovering from an injury. Getting this job certainly stopped me from sinking further into a very low patch in my life.  I feel good now, very happy with what I am doing and happy with life in general.  I am a valued member of a team, which is important.”

The Poppy Factory funded her first six month’s work with SkillForce, following which she was offered a full time position.
